The ticket price
The Summer Ball is a self-funded event, which means that all of the money needed to host the event has to come from ticket sales as the Students' Union receives no funding from the University or elsewhere and no profit is made from it either. We as a Union hold the Summer Ball not to make a profit (because we don't!), but as a fantastic way for students to end their University year and say goodbye to friends they may not see again until September.

We know that this event can sometimes sound expensive, so wanted to give you an idea of some of the costs for the fundamental elements that go into putting on a knockout event...

  • Staffing costs for running the Summer Ball (excluding security) come to more than £800 per hour the event runs for.
  • The production costs - such as generators, lighting and sound equipment and staging come to the region of £7,000
  • Big name artists can often cost far in excess of £25,000 to perform at Summer Balls (largely because they aren't performing for people they know are their fans i.e. at a gig).

The total budget for the 2010 Summer Ball is in the region of £58,000.

Summer Ball refunds
The Students' Union operates a 'no refund' policy on tickets, but in the case of the Summer Ball, where tickets are assigned to a person's student card, we will consider requests for a refund on a case by case basis.

If you wish to be considered for a refund, which are by no means guaranteed, then please complete the refund form and your case will be considered.
